Monticello is the county seat of Jasper County, located about 70 miles southeast of Atlanta in Central Georgia. Population is approximately 2,500 in the city, 14,600 in the county. Jasper County is part of the Atlanta MSA โ close enough for city trips, far enough to feel genuinely rural. It's named after Sergeant William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero, and is perhaps best known as the filming location for the 1992 comedy classic My Cousin Vinny.
The Jasper County School System serves K-12 students across four schools. Jasper County High School โ home of the Wildcats โ is the hub of community athletics. AP courses, career and technical pathways, and arts programs are offered at the high school level.
Jasper County Primary Care is the county's main outpatient primary care provider. Monticello Urgent Care handles walk-in needs with extended hours. Monticello Family Dental is accepting new patients. For major hospital services, Navicent Health in Macon and Piedmont Rockdale in Conyers are the nearest major facilities.
